Butler head coach Thad Matta secured his first recruiting class since returning to lead the program with the signing of two standout members of the Class of 2023.
Finley Bizjack and Boden Kapke signed national letters of intent Wednesday, Nov. 9, and will join the Butler program beginning with the 2023-24 season.
Bizjack is a 6-4 guard from Texas who stars for both Byron Nelson High School and the Southern Assault program. He is considered either a four- or three-star recruit by all of the recruiting services; Rivals has him ranked among their Top 150 nationally for the Class of 2023.
"Finley possesses all the things you want in a lead guard; he has a high basketball IQ, can run a team, and has great court vision," said Matta. "He's a gym rat and that shows with how he shoots the ball. I saw him take five charges in one of his AAU games. Butler fans are going to love him, and I can't wait to coach him."
As a junior at Byron Nelson, Bizjack averaged 25.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. He led the team to a record of 24-10. He made a total of 77 three-pointers and shot 77 percent from the free throw line. He had a high of 40 points and scored 30 or more in five other games.
Bizjack led Southern Assault to a third-place finish at the 3SSB Open Championships in late July.
Kapke, a 6-11 post player, will arrive at Butler from Holy Family Catholic in Minnesota. He also played a large role with the D1 Minnesota program.
"Boden is highly-skilled with a strong basketball IQ and court awareness," said Matta. "He has a high-major frame. His versatility offensively – being able to score inside and out – will be important for us in his years at Butler. Boden has a bright future ahead of him, and we're excited that future will play out in Hinkle Fieldhouse."
As a junior at Holy Family, Kapke averaged 27.2 points and 14.7 rebounds per game. He added 1.2 blocks per outing. He shot better than 60 percent from the field, including 38 percent from behind the three-point line. He had highs of 43 and 40 points, and 24 rebounds in another game. He is ranked as the No. 3 prospect in the state of Minnesota.
The Bulldogs, after winning their 2022-23 season opener earlier this week against New Orleans, return to action Monday night at Penn State in the Gavitt Games.
