@ButlerMSoccer’s Ault Is Freshman of the Year; Cabrera, Jr. and Haywood Also All-BIG EAST

| By:
Three Bulldogs earned All-BIG EAST honors for the 2022 men's soccer season, as chosen by the BIG EAST coaches and announced by the conference office Wednesday, November 8. Palmer Ault was unanimously chosen BIG EAST Freshman of the year. Joining Ault on the All-BIG EAST First Team is Wilmer Cabrera, Jr., while Jack Haywood was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.

Butler finished its conference slate with a 4-3-3 record, landing in a tie for third in the final league standings. After a quarterfinal win over No. 5 seed Providence, the No. 4 seed Bulldogs are currently preparing for a BIG EAST Tournament semifinal match against No. 1 seed Georgetown.

A unanimous selection, Ault is Butler's third Freshman of the Year in program history. Earning every start in 2022, Ault quickly gained the trust of the Butler coaching staff after back-to-back goals to open the season, including a match-winner against then-No. 14 Marshall on Aug. 29. After a stellar three game stretch from Sept. 21 through Sept. 30, Ault registered eight points on six goals and two assists to lock up both National and BIG EAST Player of the Week Honors. Overall, the forward ranks second in the BIG EAST with 10 goals and 26 points on the season, while capping conference action with 11 points on four goals and three assists. He was voted as a member of the All-BIG EAST First Team.

Cabrera, Jr., a senior from Bogota, Columbia, leads the BIG EAST and is 29th nationally with 3.12 shots per game, and he is second in the conference (44th) with 1.35 shots on goal per game. His 6 goals are eighth in the conference and his 16 total points are seventh.

This is the fifth All-BIG EAST honor for Cabrera, Jr., as he also on the 2021 and 2020-21 All-BIG EAST First Teams and was recognized as 2019 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and to the 2019 Second Team.

Haywood, a fifth-year player from Nottingham, England, is a captain for the Bulldogs and has notched a goal and three assists this season from his center-midfield position. His previous conference honors include Spring 2021 All-BIG EAST Second Team, 2019 All-BIG EAST Third Team, and 2018 All-Freshman Team.
