The Butler softball team will play five contests this coming weekend in the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play Northern Illinois (2x), Eastern Kentucky, UT-Chattanooga, and Southern Illinois. The team is coming off a 3-2 showing at the Spring Games near Orlando, Fla.

  • Bri Avery ranks 16th nationally and second in the BIG EAST with seven stolen bases.
  • Karli Ricketts ranks 39th nationally and second in the BIG EAST with 35 strikeouts from the pitching circle. Her four wins rank 11th nationally and first in the BIG EAST.
     
  • Through eleven games, Butler is outperforming its opponents in several categories that include: runs (45-27), hits (89-59), RBIs (40-18), and stolen bases (18-8).
  • Since 2010, the only seasons in which Butler has won seven or more of its first ten games are 2020 (8/10) and 2022 (7/10).
     
  • Alyssa Graves, with 28 career wins, has moved into a tie for eighth on Butler's all-time list.
  • Karli Ricketts, with 355 career strikeouts, has now moved into seventh on Butler's all-time list.
  • Coach Scott Hall is in his 12th season at the helm of Bulldogs Softball. He currently sits at 253-281-1 as head of the program, and, with 11 additional victories, could become the all-time winningest coach at Butler. Barb Greenburg, who coached from 1981 through 1994, was the program's first coach and attained a career record of 263-226-4.
 
Scouting the Opponents
 
SCOUTING NORTHERN ILLINOIS- Mid-American  (series record: Northern Illinois leads, 11-1)
The Huskies are 1-3 in 2022 with a 14-3 win over Indiana and losses to Ohio State and Bethune-Cookman. Leaders at the plate include Kara Apato (.462) and Avery Carnahan (.444), while Emily Dato (11.0 IP, 3.18 ERA, 2 K) and Delaney Ostrowski (7.0 IP, 4.00 ERA, 5 K) are key pitchers.
 
SCOUTING EASTERN KENTUCKY- ASUN  (series record: Eastern Kentucky leads, 4-1)
The Colonels are 1-9 this season with a win over Nicholls and a 4-0 loss to #23 Northwestern. Offensive leaders include Samantha Reynoso (.300) and Sammi Miller (.261). Reynoso (26.1 IP, 5.13 ERA, 11 K) and Bethany Todd (23.1 IP, 10.80 ERA, 12 K) have spent the most time in the circle.

SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA- Southern  (series record: Chattanooga leads, 3-2)
The Mocs are 5-5 to start the 2022 season. Leading batters include Olivia Lipari (.375) and Kailey Snell (.333). Brooke Parrott (29.2 IP, 0.71 ERA, 22 K) has logged the most innings at the rubber.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN ILLINOIS- Missouri Valley  (series record: SIU leads, 8-2)
The Salukis are 4-4 this season with a 4-3 win over Mississippi State. Batting leaders include Jenny Jansen (.346) and Ashley Wood (.346). In the circle, Sarah Harness (28.0 IP, 3.50 ERA, 26 K) and Madi Eberle (21.1 IP, 1.97
