JACKSON, MS- Jackson State led Butler 5-1 after the top of the fifth, but the Bulldogs would answer with six runs to secure the 6-5 win.
Derek Drees earned the win on the mound for BU with six strikeouts in ten batters faced.
The Tigers got the first tally on the board in the first as Marcus Atterberry singled out to right field and El'Rico Riley scored. Jackson State added to their lead in the fourth inning with four runs.
The Bulldogs took control for the rest of the game, starting in the fifth inning.
Ryan O'Halloran flew one out to centerfield earning an RBI, and
Billy Wurch scored the first Bulldog run of the game.
Aaron Steinhart doubled to right field, earning an RBI, and
Travis Holt scored. In the sixth, BU scored three more runs to extend the lead to 5-5. In the seventh,
James Gargano scored one more run for the Bulldogs to top off the win.
Butler saw Holt go 2-4 with a run and a stolen base. Steinhart also had a strong performance going 2-5 with an RBI and a stolen base.
Drees gave the Bulldogs a quality finish with three innings pitched, allowing no hits, no runs, and striking out six of ten batters faced.
Butler will return to action tomorrow with a doubleheader vs. Prairie View A&M at 1 PM EST and Jackson State at 5 PM EST.
