Evansville Wins at Bulldog Park 11-1

INDIANAPOLIS – Evansville hit three home runs in the third inning and added a two-run shot over the wall in left center in the fourth to cruise to an 11-1 victory over Butler on Tuesday afternoon. The outcome moved UE to 16-16 on the year, while BU slides to 15-18.

Mark Shallenberger, Evan Berkey and Chase Hug all hit a homer in the third inning to build an 8-0 Purple Ace advantage. Shallenberger opened with a three-run bomb, and Berkey matched him later in the frame. Hug finished off the scoring in the third with a two-run home run and Tanner Craig would make Evansville history with a two-run home run later in the fourth.

Butler was limited to just two hits on the day. Scott Jones came up with the first and Ryan O'Halloran joined him in the hit column to lead off the seventh. BU broke up the shutout in the bottom of the seventh with a sac fly from pinch-hitter Jaylon Nauden. His deep fly to center scored O'Halloran.

The complete game win went to LHP Donovan Schultz, his first of the year. Schultz used 99 pitches to get through seven full innings. He struck out five and only walked two.

The loss went to BU starter John MacCauley. Cole McDaniel, Spencer Seigworth, Benji Downs and Alex Voss also got in on the action Tuesday afternoon at Bulldog Park.

BU will put this one behind them and ramp up for a three-game series vs. Georgetown. That action will get going on Thursday at 4 PM.
