INDIANAPOLIS – The Georgetown Hoyas scored 14 runs off 14 hits Thursday afternoon to collect a 14-8 victory over the Butler Bulldogs. The two teams combined for 29 hits on the day with Butler recording 15 of their own. In the end, Georgetown would move to 21-13 while Butler would slide to 15-19.
Nolan McCarthy was great for Georgetown over the first six innings of the game. He struck out 11 and didn't issue a single walk.
Kollyn All would take McCarthy deep to left in the second inning to give BU a quick 1-0 lead and the Bulldogs would score again in the third off a
James Gargano RBI single. Those would be the only two runs to hit McCarthy's line as he secured his fourth win of the year.
The Georgetown offense got a lift from second baseman Ethan Stern. The three-hole hitter went 2-for-3 with two walks a run scored and a team-best six RBI. Michael Eze was yet another Hoya with a multi-RBI game. Eze was equally as impressive in the field making two great catches in centerfield.
The two teams took a 2-2 tie into the fifth inning, but that is when the game started to take shape. Georgetown scored four in the fifth, three in the seventh and five in the eighth to grab full control of the contest. The Bulldogs did plate six runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Kyle Van Liere highlighted that charge going 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored.
On the mound for Butler,
Cory Bosecker tossed 4.1 innings and struck out six before leaving the mound.
Jon Vore,
Benji Downs,
Austin Andrishok and
Dawson Taylor would also see time on the rubber.
These two teams will meet again Friday afternoon for a 4 PM first pitch.
