INDIANAPOLIS – Butler recorded an 8-7 victory over Georgetown on Friday afternoon to even the weekend series at 1-1. Game three will now be played at 11:30 AM on Saturday, April 16.
Georgetown led 5-0 after two innings today, but the Bulldogs charged back with a six-run third inning to take the lead. They added solo scores in the fourth and sixth to collect their 16th win of the 2022 campaign.
Scott Jones and
Dominic Milano were great at the plate for Butler combining for five RBI and two home runs. Joining them in the RBI column were fellow 'Dawgs
James Gargano,
Kollyn All and
Nick Ortega.
On the mound, the win went to
Derek Drees (3-0) and the save was credited to
Lukas Galdoni (2). Drees tossed five innings of relief ball and led all players with eight strikeouts. Galdoni would record the final six outs against the Hoyas without allowing a hit.
The game opened with Georgetown scoring four runs off four hits in the first inning. That lead would swell to 5-0 in the second after a Jake Hyde home run to right field.
The Bulldogs never flinched and would get going offensively in the bottom of the third with a double from
Dominic Milano. Ortega and Gargano would follow in the order to collect their RBI's and
Scott Jones would hit a three-run homer to left to tie the game at 5-5. Butler took the lead moments later on an All RBI single to left center that scored
Ryan O'Halloran.
The Hoyas tied the score in the top of the fourth, but Butler responded with a Milano solo home run to right to regain the 7-6 lead. Milano's name was called again in the sixth with an RBI double to right center that scored
Billy Wurch. On the day Milano went 3-for-3 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored. The three hits were all impactful with the homer being surrounded by two doubles.
Georgetown made it a one-run game in the seventh after an Evan Blum solo home run, but Galdoni would close down the shop and allow BU to come out on top 8-7.
As a reminder, game three of the three game series has been pushed up to 11:30 AM.
