@ButlerUBaseball Drops Game Three to Georgetown 8-4

INDIANAPOLIS – The Georgetown Hoyas came up with an 8-4 win at Butler on Saturday afternoon to win the weekend series two games to one. Matthew Sapienza earned the win and Angelo Tonas came in for his fifth save of the season. Georgetown moves to 22-14 on the year while Butler slides to 16-20.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second inning and would score single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth to stay in the game, but the Hoyas would come out victorious with two runs in the fourth, and fifth, a solo score in the eighth and a decisive three-run ninth inning.

Owen Carapellotti and Christian Ficca were great against Butler on Saturday. Carapellotti went 3-for-5 with a double and Ficca went 2-for-4 with a game-high three RBI. GU only used two arms over the nine inning contest with Sapienza getting the start, and Tonas the save. Sapienze threw 6.2 innings and struck out four. He limited BU to four hits and two runs. Tonas tossed the final 2.1 innings and struck out four Bulldogs.

For Butler, Nick Eaton had a nice four-inning outing that featured five strikeouts and just one walk. A costly BU error would extend his time on the mound and the two runs to come around to score against him were both unearned.

Adrian Vega would give Butler three good innings of relief before passing the ball off to Cole Graverson. The ninth inning would then belong to Lukas Galdoni.

Butler had 10 hits on the day, compared to 12 for the Hoyas. Leading the way in the hit column for BU was Dominic Milano and Kyle Van Liere with two each. Milano, Van Liere, Billy Wurch and Ryan O'Halloran all had RBI's for Butler.

Wurch posted the first RBI of the day for Butler in the second to score O'Halloran, but the Bulldogs would trail the Hoyas 4-1 after five innings. Van Liere didn't start but that didn't stop him from making an impact on Saturday. He entered centerfield and came up with a single through the right side of the infield in the seventh to score Milano.

Milano singled to left to score Aaron Steinhart in the eighth and O'Halloran hit a ball sharply down the line to score Gargano in the ninth.

BU will have two midweek games at Bulldog Park before continuing BIG EAST play. They will host Northern Kentucky and Dayton before traveling to New York for a three-game series against the Red Storm.
