Butler has added Akron transfer Ali Ali to the Bulldogs' roster. Ali has two seasons of eligibility remaining, beginning with the 2022-23 season.

The 6-8 Ali earned All-Mid American Conference second team honors while leading Akron in scoring, three-point shooting and assists last season. The Zips posted a 24-10 record, won the MAC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

"Ali's game has developed at a high rate over the past three seasons," said Butler coach Thad Matta, who was hired to lead the Bulldogs program earlier this month. "He is a shot-maker with a versatile skill set. Ali is also a winner who is excited to have an immediate impact on what we are building here at Butler."

Ali scored 13.9 points per game as a junior during the 2021-22 season, which was Top 15 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). That included six games with 20 points or more, highlighted by a career-best 32 against Buffalo on New Year's Day. Ali shot 41 percent from three-point range and 72 percent from the free throw line, adding 2.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Ali's three-point percentage was fifth in the MAC.

In this three seasons at Akron, Ali has appeared in 88 games, making 66 starts. His scoring average grew from 1.1 points per game as a freshman to 7.2 as a sophomore and then a team-best 13.9 during the 2021-22 season.

Ali played at East Noble High School in Kendallville, Ind., and was selected as an Indiana All-Star before attending Akron.
