Creighton Outlasts @ButlerUBaseball in Game One of Weekend Series

OMAHA – Creighton starter Dylan Tebrake threw a complete game on Friday afternoon to lead the Bluejays to a 3-1 victory over visiting Butler. The 2022 BIG EAST Preseason Pitcher of the Year threw 117 pitches over nine innings, limiting BU to just one run off three hits.

7,126 fans were in attendance today to see the pitcher's duel between Tebrake and Butler's Adrian Vega. Tebrake struck out 15 batters and only allowed one walk. Vega went six full innings against the second-best team in the BIG EAST standings and struck out seven Bluejays.

Vega gave up two extra base hits to Creighton in the first inning, which would result in one run. The BU freshman settled down from that point and would retire the Bluejays in order over the next four innings.

Hogan Helligos finally cracked the code for CU in the sixth with a lead-off double down the line. A second double down the leftfield line with two outs would allow two runs to score, giving the home team a 3-1 lead.

Butler and Creighton were tied at 1-1 for a majority of the game. Scott Jones led off the second inning with a double to leftfield. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and would quickly tie the game by crossing home plate after a sacrifice fly from Kollyn All.

Billy Wurch was the only other BU starter to record a hit off Tebrake. The Bulldogs went with Robbie McCargar late in the game in a pinch-hit role. McCargar would get on, but Tebrake was simply too good for the Bulldogs to comeback.

Butler and Creighton will meet again tomorrow at Charles Schwab Field. The game will be available on the Nebraska Public Media Network. First pitch is set for 7:30 PM.
