OMAHA – The Creighton Bluejays recorded a pair of wins on Sunday to sweep a weekend series over the Butler Bulldogs. Saturday's game in Omaha was suspended in the bottom of the seventh inning due to a lightning storm. That contest was played out Sunday morning before the start of game three. Creighton wrapped up a 14-6 win over BU to start the day and scratched across a run in the bottom of the ninth to defeat BU 4-3 in the finale.
Creighton scored four runs in the second inning and added five more in the fifth to take control of game two. The top of the order was outstanding for Head Coach Ed Servais. Andrew Meggs, Alan Roden, Jared Wegner and Jack Grace combined for 15 hits, 11 RBI and nine runs scored to push CU to victory.
Butler got multi-hit games from
Travis Holt,
Kollyn All,
Dominic Milano, and
Ryan O'Halloran. Milano and
Garret Gray each had two RBI for the 'Dawgs and All would lead the team with two runs scored.
Cole McDaniel took the loss while the win went to Daniel Hammond. McDaniel and
Jon Vore each had three strikeouts for Butler.
Lukas Galdoni,
Benji Downs and
Greg Gilbert would also touch the rubber in game two.
Game three was intense with
Cory Bosecker getting the start against Tommy Steier. Bosecker threw five full innings before handing the ball off to
Aaron Barokas. After three solid frames, Barokas would exit the game for
Derek Drees.
The Bluejays used six arms in the finale. Marc Lidd improved to 3-1 on the year with the win. He threw 2.2 innings and only allowed one BU hit while striking out three.
Butler scored the first run of the game with a solo home run from DH
Aaron Steinhart. Creighton tied the contest at 1-1 in the fourth, but BU would strike back with a pair of runs in the fifth.
Ryan O'Halloran singled to left to score All and Holt would double to center sending O'Halloran around to score.
