INDIANAPOLIS – The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons recorded a 4-2 win over Butler on Tuesday afternoon to collect their 17th win of the season. Braxton Wilson was credited with the win and Rex Stills picked up the save.
PFW scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the third inning. Nelis doubled to right centerfield to score Lang and the game-tying run would come home on a single to left. The difference in this once was a two-RBI double to right from Hahn that scored both Stewart and Fitzpatrick.
Butler scored in the second on an RBI groundout from
Kyle Van Liere. They doubled their lead in the top of the third on a single to left from
Kollyn All that sent
Travis Holt around to score.
Holt and
Garret Gray supplied the 'Dawgs with four of their six total hits. Purdue Fort Wayne matched BU with six hits of their own.
Starter
John MacCauley gave up four hits in three innings of work. He struck out three and walked five.
Alex Voss came in to provide 3.2 innings of relief. He struck out five and only walked two. The final four outs of the game went to
Greg Gilbert. The right-hander struck out two of the four batters he faced.
Butler will return to Indianapolis to face Seton Hall in a three-game series that gets underway on Thursday. First pitch for both Thursday and Friday is set for 4 PM.
