INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs recorded an 8-7 win over Seton Hall to start Friday afternoon, but took a 12-6 loss in game two. The BIG EAST rivals were forced to finish game one on Friday at noon after a storm rolled through Indianapolis Thursday evening.
James Gargano was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 10th inning to push BU into the win column. The loss eliminated Seton Hall from any chance of postseason action.
Gargano went 3-for-5 for Butler in game one with two RBI and a run scored. Gargano,
Kollyn All and
Scott Jones all recorded an extra base hit in the victory. Jones highlighted the first inning with a two-RBI double to deep center, but the biggest hit of Thursday afternoon was a game-tying home run from
Aaron Steinhart in the seventh. Steinhart's 10th home run of the season scored Gargano and extended the game.
Derek Drees would pick up where
Aaron Barokas left off and limited the Pirates to just one hit over three innings to earn the win.
Adrian Vega got the start and struck out three in his final start of the year.
Lukas Galdoni was the player of the game for Butler in game two. He hit two, two-run home runs for the Bulldogs to get Butler on the scoreboard. The two long balls were not enough however as Seton Hall opened the game with a five-run first inning and added seven runs in the fourth.
Nick Payero was credited with the win while
Cole McDaniel was hit with the loss.
Butler and Seton Hall will play again tomorrow. First pitch has been moved up to 10:30 AM. Fans are encouraged to attend the game at Bulldog Park to see Coach Schrage in his final game as a Bulldog.
