Butler softball head coach
Scott Hall has added two assistants to his coaching staff with the hiring of Mallory Winters and Daniel Shipley. Winters, who played for the Bulldogs, was most recently on the coaching staff at Lewis University. Shipley is also no stranger to Butler, as he served the program in the roles of student manager and student assistant coach over the past four seasons.
Â
Â
Winters spent three seasons assisting with the Lewis University softball program, helping lead the Flyers to a 63-50 overall record. In 2021, the team finished 16-12 in conference play and qualified for the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament.
Â
Prior to her stint at Lewis, Winters spent six years working with Next College Student-Athlete in Chicago. She primarily worked with club and high school coaches and student-athletes who were part of the college recruiting process.
Â
Over that same time period, Winters also maintained a presence on the diamond. She served as an assistant coach with the OC Batbusters organization, working as an instructor with outfielders, catchers, and batters and, at the same time, overseeing recruiting for multiple teams.
Â
Prior to joining the Batbusters, Winters spent four years as an assistant coach with the Illinois Vipers club program. As an assistant coach for the 16U/18U competitive softball team, her focus was practice plan development and drill implementation.
Â
A former Butler Bulldog, Winters played for head coaches Jeanne Rayman and
Scott Hall. The Arvada, Colo., native was a four-year starter at catcher, finishing her career with nine home runs, 12 doubles, and 54 RBI. She graduated cum laude in 2012 with a degree in electronic media.
Â
Shipley, from Houston, Texas, served on the Bulldogs coaching staff as a student manager during the 2019 and 2020 seasons and then as a student assistant coach the past two seasons. During that four-year period, the Bulldogs made two BIG EAST Tournament appearances, winning a record 16 conference games in 2022. Shipley graduated from Butler in May, 2022, with both a bachelor's and a master's degree in accounting.
