INDIANAPOLIS – Training camp for the Butler football team will begin in August, but many of the players on the roster have already started to prepare for the upcoming 2022 season. Over 70 student-athletes were on campus this summer training for the 11-game schedule.

"The goal of summer training is to build culture, increase performance, and prepare the football team for the upcoming August practices," Strength and Conditioning Coach TJ Greenstone explained. "Thanks to our strong internship network in Indianapolis and summer class selection, over 70 football players, (including over half of the incoming freshmen class) returned to campus for summer training which is the largest group in recent history. Being on campus for training allows our student-athletes to spend time together in the weight room, on the field, and outside of Hinkle Fieldhouse. The group was able to build chemistry and comradery as they prepare for the rigors of Saturdays in the fall."

Members of the Butler football team recently broke 21 strength and conditioning records. The highlights are below:
- AJ Deinhart (RB) - Bench Press, 365lbs (20+ year old record)
- Bret Bushka (QB) - Cleaning 330lbs
- Kody Leach (DB) - Cleaning 340lbs
- Isaac Kolosik (LB) - 15 Pull-up
- Tyler Adams (WR) - 21 Pull-up
- Adam Cipriano (DB) – 3.88 short shuttle
- Jared Suchevits (TE) – Set position records in Bench, Squat, Clean, Pull-Ups, and 40-yard dash
Suchevits achieved the level of Block 2, the highest level of training that a Butler football player can receive. He achieved goals in movement capacity, strength, power, and body composition to reach Block 2.

As July winds down, the team will focus on their ability to sprint repeatedly. Conditioning includes reactive agility and rest times that mirror the game of football. The work in the weight room begins to focus on the speed of movement utilizing velocity-based training technology sensors that are placed on the barbell when needed.

Additionally, a dual force plate system was used to track progress and readiness of the team as the summer progressed. The strength and conditioning staff utilizes this information to track health of players returning from injury and adjusting programs based on the student-athletes ability to decelerate and reaccelerate.

The team will finish their summer training by rescreening the Functional Movement Screen, retesting body composition, and scaling back to set the Bulldogs up for a great first preseason camp for Coach Uremovich and his staff.

Once camp is complete, the Bulldogs will host St. Thomas (Fla.) on Sept. 3 to signal the start of the 2022 campaign. Kick-off is slated for 1 PM.
