Butler Men’s Soccer Drops Match with Providence

INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler men's soccer team and visiting Providence were level, 0-0, at the half, but the Friars took control after the break, scoring all three of their goals in a span of 13 minutes. Providence (7-4-3, 4-1-2 BIG EAST) sits second in the BIG EAST standings, trailing only Georgetown. The Bulldogs (2-7-6, 1-3-4 BIG EAST) sit in ninth with one match remaining and will need to move up to the eighth spot to qualify for the postseason.

  • 66' | Providence plays a ball forward into the area. Gevork Diarbian battles a defender and taps the ball to Brendan McSorley who and puts the ball past his defender and into the net. The Friars take a 1-0 lead.
  • 73' | Two one-touch passes from McSorley and Diego Batista set up Bruno Rosa for an 18-yard strike that finds the right upper 90. Providence takes a two-goal lead.
  • 78' | Passes from Batista and Afonso Serrano allow Rosa to score his second goal of the match, as he slides the ball past a charging Caleb Norris. The Friars are up, 3-0.
