STOCKTON, Calif. – The Butler women's basketball team tied a single-game school record on Saturday afternoon by making 16 3-point field goals in a 76-54 win over St. Thomas. The Bulldogs hit seven of their 16 3-pointers in the first quarter to build a lead they would never give up. The victory in game two of the Tiger Turkey Tip-Off improved their overall record to 4-2.
Jordan Meulemans scored a career-high 24 points in the victory, making eight of her 10 3-point attempts against the Tommies. Meulemans nearly tied the BU single-game 3-point record of nine set by Blaire Langlois during the 2014-15 season.
Rachel Kent added four 3-pointers to Butler's total, helping her score 15 points and
Caroline Strande was 3-for-6 from downtown to chip in with 17.
Sydney Jaynes was the fourth Bulldog in double figures. She came off the bench today to score 18.
Meulemans and Kent each hit two 3-pointers before the first media timeout of the game to set the tone for the rest of the day. The 'Dawgs went 7-for-12 (58%) from behind the arc over the first 10 minutes to grab a 27-15 lead and would increase that advantage to 47-30 at the half.
St. Thomas continued to fight and would outscore Butler by five in the third quarter. The Tommies opened the second half on a 6-0 run, but the 'Dawgs would keep their double figure lead and outscore St. Thomas 18-8 in the fourth to secure the victory.
