22-23 SB Hoosen

@ButlerSoftball 2023 Preview Series: Outfielders

| By:
Butler outfielders in 2023 will likely include three returning starters: junior Monique Hoosen, redshirt-sophomore Kaylee Gross, and sophomore Ella White. The trio combined for over 100 starts in 2022, although White may be shifted to the infield this season on a regular basis.

"We return a lot of experience in the outfield," expressed Head Coach Scott Hall.  "(Mallory) McMahon, Hoosen, Gross and White all return, and when we add in the incoming freshmen, Cate Lehner and Hailey Conger, along with their additional speed, I am confident that our outfield will be a very dependable and capable unit."

Hoosen appeared in 47 games last season, starting 45. She finished fourth in the BIG EAST in home runs (10) and fifth in slugging percentage (.642), leading the Bulldogs in both categories, and she was third on the team with a .294 batting average.

McMahon is the most senior of the outfield corps. Over three seasons, she has appeared in 54 games. At the plate, she has accumulated 22 hits that include a home run and two doubles.

Gross appeared in 44 games last season as a freshman, starting 28. She notched 18 hits, including two triples and a double, and she added three RBI, 12 runs, and two stolen bases.

While White was a perennial starter last season in the outfield, she will possibly divide her time in 2023 between the outfield and infield. She was fourth on the team last season with a .275 batting average, led the team with 11 doubles, and was second with five home runs and a .519 slugging percentage. Her three triples ranked second in the BIG EAST.

Incoming freshmen, Hailey Conger and Cate Lehner, bring additional speed to the group and are expected to contribute significant innings in the outfield positions.

As Hall pondered the season ahead, he stated, "It's on offense that this team needs to continually work and trust the process. We have a lot of potential! We possess power and speed, and if we continue to work hard, this team can be very potent. I feel that we have a lot of options defensively, and our line-up will mostly be decided by who is producing at the plate."
