@ButlerSoftball Drops Game Two at Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Butler softball team fell behind early and never recovered in game two of its BIG EAST series with Seton Hall, losing by the final score of 6-2. The Pirates (38-15, 18-5 BIG EAST) produced a grand slam contributing to its five-run first inning. The Bulldogs (17-33, 11-9 BIG EAST) scored one in the third and added one more in the seventh.

How It Happened
With five hits that included a grand slam, Seton Hall took a five-run lead in the first inning.

In the third, Butler loaded the bases with one out. Teagan O'Rilley drew a walk and pushed across the first run for the Bulldogs. A line drive double-play in the next at bat ended the threat and maintained a 5-1 lead for the Pirates.

A Seton Hall single in the bottom of the fourth allowed another Pirate to tag home and extended the lead to 6-1.

In the seventh, Ellie Boyer (2-3, HR, 3B) hit a solo home run for Butler's final run of the game.

Sydney Cammon (4-8) pitched a complete game for Butler in the circle and took the loss. In 6.0 innings, she allowed six runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out four.

Bulldog Bits
  • Ellie Boyer's home run was the first of her career. Her triple was her first of the season and the second of her career.
  • Monique Hoosen's double was her seventh of the season and 13th of her career.
  • Sydney Cammon pitched her fourth complete game of the season.
Up Next
Butler remains in South Orange for the final game the series with Seton Hall, scheduled for Sunday. The Bulldogs have qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament in Storrs, Conn., from May 10-13.
