St. John's pulled away over the final eight minutes of the game to take an 86-70 win over visiting Butler Tuesday night at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y.

With the result, Butler falls to 10-4 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST play.

HOW IT TRANSPIRED:

- St. John's scored seven of the final nine points of the first half to take a 45-38 halftime lead. The Red Storm's largest lead of the first half was eight points.
- An early Butler spurt to start the second half trimmed the advantage to just three points at 47-44 before seven straight points from St. John's created a cushion.
- A 15-4 St. John's run extended a six-point lead to 74-57 lead with 6:19 remaining, which was the Red Storm's largest lead of the game.
- Butler would not go quietly, scoring the next eight points to return the lead to single digits at 74-65, but could never get closer than that.

- DJ Davis led the Bulldogs with 25 points, matching his season-high. He went 5-for-10 from three-point range.
- St. John's put six players in double figures, led by Daniss Jenkins with 17 points.
- Joel Soriano (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Chris Ledlum (13 points, 11 rebounds) both registered double-doubles for the Red Storm.
- St. John's had a 43-32 rebounding advantage, which included 17 offensive rebounds. Butler had 14 offensive rebounds, but St. John's held a 23-7 margin in second-chance points.
- St. John's shot 50 percent from the field.
- Posh Alexander returned to Carnesecca Arena in a Butler uniform to face his old team; he scored 11 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists.
- Butler shot 40 percent from the field.
- Pierre Brooks II scored 11 points and had a team-best seven rebounds. He has scored in double figures in every game for Butler this season.
- Butler head coach Thad Matta was ejected after receiving two technical fouls with 2:27 remaining in the game.
