Bulldogs and Georgetown Set for Tuesday Tip in Washington, D.C.

The Bulldogs travel to the nation's capital for a Tuesday night tip with Georgetown. The Hoyas become the first BIG EAST opponent that Butler will face for the second time this season; the Bulldogs have yet to face Villanova nor Creighton. Butler took a 74-64 win over the Hoyas Dec. 19 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in the BIG EAST opener for both teams.

The Series with the Hoyas
• The first meeting between Butler and Georgetown came in the 2009 Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden.
• Almost all of the match-ups have come since Butler joined the BIG EAST prior to the 2013-14 season. The teams played three times during the 2013-14 season as both programs were already committed to the Battle 4 Atlantis event that year.
• Both teams have enjoyed more success on the road than at home in the series; Butler is 7-3 against the Hoyas in Washington, D.C.
 
The First Time Around
• Butler defeated Georgetown, 74-64, Dec. 19 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in the BIG EAST opener for both teams.
• Four Bulldogs scored in double figures, led by Pierre Brooks II and Posh Alexander, each with 13. DJ Davis scored 12 first-half points before exiting early in the second half with an ankle injury.
• Butler enjoyed a 46-22 advantage in points in the paint in the contest.

Of Note
• Butler defeated DePaul, 74-60, Saturday afternoon in the team's most recent outing.
• The win was Thad Matta's 50th as the head coach at Butler.
• Butler leads the BIG EAST, shooting 35.7 percent from three-point range on the season. The Bulldogs were ninth among the 11 conference teams a season ago.
• Butler had a season-high 11 steals against DePaul; Posh Alexander matched his career-high with six, while DJ Davis set a new career-best with five of his own.
• Alexander is now the most recent player to record six steals for Butler (Saturday) and against Butler (while playing for St. John's, Jan. 10, 2023).
• Over his last four games, Alexander is averaging 16.3 points per game, shooting 47 percent from three-point range, and has 22 assists against only nine turnovers.
• Alexander owns the BIG EAST lead at 2.4 steals per game. His 5.3 assists per game are fourth in the league.
• Butler committed only eight turnovers against DePaul, including only one in the first half. The Bulldogs have only committed a total of 22 turnovers over its last three games. Butler has committed 10 or fewer turnovers in 10 games this season. Butler is 9-4 when committing fewer turnovers than its opponent.
• Butler out-rebounded DePaul, 37-30, Saturday. Butler is 10-0 this season when out-rebounding its opponent.
• The Bulldogs went 18-for-21 from the free throw line against DePaul. On the season, Butler ranks fifth nationally in free throw shooting at 79 percent. Butler has shot 70 percent or better from the line in all but one game this season.
• Davis went a perfect 7-for-7 from the line Saturday against DePaul; he ranks second nationally in free throw percentage (96.7). He has two separate games going 10-for-10 from the charity stripe this season and has hit all 25 of his attempts in BIG EAST play.
• Davis scored 17 points against DePaul after totaling only 10 over his previous three games.
• Pierre Brooks II led the Bulldogs with 20 points against DePaul, his fifth 20-point game of the season and his sixth time leading the team in scoring.
• Over his last five games, Brooks is shooting 19-for-34 from three-point range (56 percent).
• Brooks is fifth in the BIG EAST in scoring at 16.6 points per game; he has scored in double figures in every game this season. His 2.74 three-pointers per game are fourth in the conference.
• Jalen Thomas had 11 points and 10 rebounds at Xavier Tuesday, recording his third double-double of the season. 
• Thomas ranks seventh in the BIG EAST in blocks (1.3) and tenth in rebounding (7.1).
• Over his last four games, Thomas is averaging 11 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 67 percent from the field. 
• Brooks, Alexander, Davis and Jahmyl Telfort each have multiple games scoring 20 or more points this season. Butler has had multiple players post 20 or more in the same game four times this season.
• Telfort matched his career-high with nine rebounds in Saturday's win over DePaul.
• The Bulldogs rank 11th nationally, committing just 13.7 fouls per game.
