AUSTIN, Texas – The College Sports Communicators selected a group of outstanding student-athletes to Academic All-America football teams on Tuesday. Butler offensive lineman
Bryan Bystol was recognized as a second team selection. Bystol was one of five offensive linemen on the second team and one of 15 members at the Division 1 level to boast a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
Â
Bystol is just the eighth Butler football player in program history to earn Academic All-American honors and the first since Brad Sznajder after the completion of the 2019 season. A middle and secondary education major, Bystol held a 4.0 GPA during every semester at Butler. He was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team a year ago and is a four-time First Team Academic All-PFL selection.
Â
On the gridiron, Bystol started in the final four games of the 2021 spring season and appeared in eight games for Butler that fall. He didn't miss a start at center for the Bulldogs over his final two seasons and Butler was able to record seven wins in both 2022 and 2023.
Â
First Team Academic All-Americans at the offensive line position group included Cooper Beebe (Kansas State), Zak Zinter (Michigan), Seth McLaughlin (Alabama), Josh Priebe (Northwestern), Zach Frazier (West Virginia) and Eric Miller (Louisville).
Â
Jacob Bayer (Arkansas State), Jake Majors (Texas), Graham Barton (Duke), and Chad Lindberg (Georgia) joined Bystol as second team selections. The CSC Academic All-America Team Member of the Year was Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze.
