Butler Puts Winning Streak on the Line at No. 13 Creighton Friday Night

The Bulldogs travel to Omaha Friday night for a match-up with No. 13 Creighton. Butler has yet to face the Bluejays this season, the only BIG EAST foe that the Bulldogs have not tipped off against at this point in the 2023-24 season. The Bulldogs, winners of three straight, have matched their 2022-23 win total despite having 10 regular season games remaining.

The Series with the Bluejays
• Creighton's 17-11 series lead over Butler is largely due to an 11-2 advantage in games played in Omaha.
• The Bluejays have won eight straight in Omaha.
• The teams first met in 1933; they played twice in 1975, but then did not meet again until the 2013-14 season when both joined the BIG EAST Conference.

OF NOTE
• Butler is coming off a double-overtime win over Villanova that included the Bulldogs leading for only 1:07 of the 50 minutes.
• Butler scored 40 points over the first 31:30 of the game before heating up for 48 over the final 18:30. The game's first tie came at 64-64 at the end of regulation. 
• DJ Davis tied his career-high with 28 points (all after halftime); it marks the most points by a Bulldog in a game this season.
• In his 100th career game, Jahmyl Telfort picked up his first double-double with 22 points and a career-best 11 rebounds. It was his second-highest scoring output of the season.
• Butler has out-rebounded each of its last three opponents and is 12-0 this season when winning the glass.
• The Bulldogs committed only 10 turnovers Saturday in 50 minutes of action, the team's 12th game of the season with 10 or fewer miscues. Butler is 10-4 on the season when committing fewer turnovers than its opponent.
• With 88 points Saturday, Butler has 11 games this season scoring 80 or more (including six games of 90 or more points). Butler hit 80 only six times all of last season.
• Butler made 17 of 22 free throw attempts against Villanova. On the season, Butler ranks seventh nationally in free throw shooting at 78.7 percent. Butler has shot 70 percent or better from the line in all but one game this season.
• The Bulldogs rank tenth nationally, committing just 13.6 fouls per game.
• Butler's February schedule includes eight games, all against teams ranked No. 64 or better in the NCAA NET metric. Four of those games are on the road. Life in the BIG EAST...
• Davis went 3-for-4 from the free throw line against Villanova, his first miss since Dec. 9 vs. Cal. He ranks second nationally in free throw percentage (95.7). He is 34-for-35 in BIG EAST play.
• Posh Alexander enters Friday's game with 499 career assists.
• Alexander leads the BIG EAST and is 12th nationally at 2.43 steals per game.
• Alexander is fourth in the conference and 42nd nationally with 5.1 assists per game.
• Pierre Brooks II is third in the BIG EAST in both three-point percentage (43.2) and three-pointers made per game (2.71). His three-point percentage ranks 15th nationally.
• Brooks is sixth in the BIG EAST in scoring at 16.6 points per game.
• Brooks has six 20-point games this season, including three of the last four games. He has scored in double figures in every game this season.
• Brooks finished with 20 points and a career-high 11 rebounds in the Jan. 23 win over Georgetown, giving him the first double-double of his career. He went on his own 13-0 run midway through the first half.
• Butler's 90-66 Jan. 23 win at Georgetown was the Bulldogs' highest point total in a BIG EAST game since defeating DePaul, 91-78, Feb. 16, 2019.
• Butler had a season-high 11 steals in the Jan. 20 win against DePaul; Alexander matched his career-high with six, while Davis set a new career-best with five of his own.
• Alexander is now the most recent player to record six steals for Butler (Jan. 20) and against Butler (while playing for St. John's, Jan. 10, 2023).
• Alexander's 51 steals are already tied for 13th on Butler's single-season list.
• Jalen Thomas ranks sixth in the BIG EAST in blocks (1.4) and 11th in rebounding (6.8).
 
Home, Sweet Hinkle
• Butler is 10-2 at Hinkle Fieldhouse so far this season.
• Thad Matta is 33-9 at Hinkle Fieldhouse as the head coach at Butler (2000-01 and his current stint that began prior to the 2022-23 season).
• Butler has scored at least 80 points in eight of its home games this season (going over the 90-point mark five times).
• Butler is 77-2 over its last 79 non-conference home games, winning 15 straight.
 
Balancing Act
• Four different Bulldogs have multiple 20-point scoring performances this season.
• Ten different Bulldogs have scored in double figures in at least one game so far this season.
• Butler's balanced attack has seen at least five players score in double figures in the same game seven times this season, including most recently in the Jan. 23 win at Georgetown.
 
Working Overtime
• Butler is 3-1 in overtime games this season, which includes a single-overtime win over Texas Tech Nov. 30 and double-overtime wins over Cal Dec. 9 and Villanova Jan. 27.
• Butler scored on every possession during the overtime period in the Bulldogs' 103-95 win over Texas Tech Nov. 30. Butler went 4-of-6 from the field, but collected offensive rebounds on both misses and scored. The team went 10-for-10 from the free throw line and did not commit a turnover.
