Butler Falls to DePaul 67-57

INDIANAPOLIS – The DePaul Blue Demons handed Butler a 67-57 home loss on Wednesday night to improve their overall record to 11-12. The Bulldogs were limited to just six points in the second quarter to give DePaul a six-point lead at the half. Anaya Peoples would then come alive for the Blue Demons to score a game-high 24 points. With the loss, BU moves to 9-12 this season.

Cristen Carter scored from the left block on Butler's opening possession, but the Blue Demons would be responsible for the game's next eight points. The DePaul scoring spree happened in less than a minute, but it would not define the first quarter. Butler bounced back and went on a 12-0 run to grab a 21-14 lead. Rachel Kent and Caroline Strande each had six in the first quarter, Ari Wiggins was in the box score with five and Carter was 2-for-2 for four points.

The second quarter belonged to DePaul with the Blue Demons outscoring Butler 19-6 to take a 33-27 halftime lead. Strande had four of Butler's six in the second. The 'Dawgs shot just 20 percent from the field while DePaul made nine of their 13 attempts to end the first half.

DePaul's message at halftime was clear and Anaya Peoples got involved in each possession for the Blue Demons. The graduate student scored 11 of DePaul's 18 third quarter points including the first nine of the second half. Her scoring output gave the visitor's a 51-42 edge with 10 to play.

BU made it close in the fourth with a 7-0 run that made the game 59-53. Sydney Jaynes used a post move and a fadeaway to score during that stretch while Karsyn Norman added a 3-pointer. DePaul scored the next four points to push the lead back to 10 and the Blue Demons would exit Hinkle Fieldhouse with a 67-57 win.
