INDIANAPOLIS – Seton Hall secured a 64-50 win at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. The Pirates shot 50 percent from the field and 54 percent from 3-point range (12-22) to record their 10th win of the season. With the loss, BU moves to 8-6 overall and 0-3 in the BIG EAST.
Seton Hall led Butler 9-4 at the first media timeout, but the Bulldogs would end the first quarter on a 9-0 scoring run to earn a 16-11 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
Caroline Strande hit back-to-back shots from distance to get BU within one at 11-10 and
Rachel Kent would add a triple to give BU their first lead at 13-11. The final 3-pointer from Butler was a buzzer beater from
Jordan Meulemans. Her first points of the afternoon gave BU a five-point lead.
The second quarter belonged to Seton Hall as the Pirates outscored Butler 21-5 to take a 32-21 halftime lead. Savannah Catalon didn't score in the first quarter but would hit four shots in the second to pace the Pirate offense with 11 points.
Caroline Strande scored eight of her 10 points in the first and Azana Baines scored all seven of her first half points in the first quarter.
Each team scored nine points over the first five minutes of the third quarter. BU's first triple came from Strande in front of the BU bench and Meulemans hit the next two from behind the arc. An 8-0 scoring run from SHU would follow and give the Pirates a 46-30 lead with under three to play in the third.
Strande and Meulemans accounted for 25 of Butler's 33 points heading into the fourth quarter. Any chance of a comeback would be crushed early in the fourth as SHU opened the final 10-minute stretch on a 10-0 run.
