Butler Loses Tough Matchup at No. 5 Creighton

OMAHA, NEB. — The Bulldogs fought hard against one of the best teams in the nation, but Creighton would eventually win in three sets (16-25, 16-25, 15-25). Elise Ward led the team with seven kills while Zoe McDonald added three blocks.

Creighton 25-16
The match began in a dead heat with Butler using kills from Laiya Ebo and Zoe McDonald to keep up with Creighton at 5-5. Elise Ward helped the Bulldogs stay within two points at 13-11. The Blue Jays would then go on a 7-0 run to take fly away with the first set at 24-13 and eventually 25-16.

Creighton 25-16
Butler began the second set from behind after the Blue Jays took an early 4-0 lead. Kill from Ebo and Alaleh Tolliver then brought the Bulldogs back to tie the set at 5-5. They would hang around in the set until Creighton started pulling away late in the set at 19-14 and closing out the set on a 5-0 spurt to go up 2-0 in the match.

Creighton 25-15
The third set was a similar story with the Bulldogs falling down 5-1 to start but then consecutive service aces by Lauren Evans brought them back to title the set at 5-5. Creighton quickly took back control of the set storming out to a 13-7 lead. They would pile on the score eventually winning the match at 25-15.

Inside The Box Score
  • Cora Taylor finished with 21 assists and three digs
  • Ward finished with a team-high seven kills along with seven digs
  • Tolliver recorded six kills and five digs
  • Ebo collected six kills and a block
  • Evans tied for the team-high seven digs while adding two service aces 
Up Next 
The Bulldogs will return to Hinkle Fieldhouse for the final home matches of the season with the Alumni Night on Nov. 16 at 2:30 PM against Villanova and Senior Night on Nov. 17 at 1 PM.
