ButlerXCTF Completes Opening Weekend in Boston and South Bend

The Butler track and field team completed the season opener for their 2024-25 indoor track and field campaign. 

The Bulldogs first raced at the Blue and Gold Invitational in South Bend, Ind. on Friday. The team was led by the women's 4x400-meter relay quartet of Abby Brennan, Grace Stedge, Lauren Doerr, and Allie Minier, which were the lone group to finish atop the podium for the Bulldogs.

On Saturday, five Bulldog men competed in the 5,000 meters against the top talent in the country at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston, Mass.

Matthew Forrester held the top time by a Bulldogs with a mark of 13:54.54 placing 88th. Luke Henseler and Austin Gabay followed side-by-side in 122nd and 123rd at 14:04.93 and 14:05.25. Jack McMahon (14:08.72) and Brendan Thomas (14:45.26)rounded out the Bulldog competitors in Boston.

Other top Bulldog performers included:
  • Asher Propst and Kyle Grove placed second and third in the 3,000 meters. Propst shaved 18 seconds off his personal best at 8:31.58 while Grove finished just behind in 8:32.08.
  • Renate Toldo and Elsa Rusthoven also earned new lifetime bests in the women's mile. Toldo recorded a mark of 4:54.34 to place third while Rusthoven followed in fifth at 4:57.61.
  • Cabott Craft posted a distance of 6.54 meters in the long jump to take fourth
  • Troy Larrison led the way for the Bulldogs in the 300 meters crossing the line in fourth at 34.89.

The Bulldogs will have one more meet before the end of the New Year at the IU Early Bird beginning on Dec. 13 in Bloomington, Ind.
