The Butler softball team heads south to Atlanta this weekend to play its second tournament of the 2024 season. The Bulldogs went 1-4 last weekend at the UNI-Dome Classic in Iowa. Opponents this coming weekend include Belmont, South Dakota, and Georgia Southern,

  • Three Bulldogs - Teagan O'Rilley, Monique Hoosen, and Paige Dorsett - connected on their first home run of the season
  • Five Bulldogs combined for nine extra-base hits (3-HR, 2-3B, 4-2B) over the five-game tournament.
  • Freshman Katie Petran began her collegiate career pitching seven scoreless innings spread over two games. Her first win was a complete game vs. Western Illinois.
  • Six Bulldogs - Erin Clark, Leigh Vande Hei, Hailey Conger, Katie Petran, Makena Alexander, and Olivia Roberts - all made their first collegiate appearances over the weekend.
  • Butler's 2024 schedule includes four teams that qualified for the 2023 NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs' season opener was vs. Omaha (Feb. 9) at UNI. Additional opponents include Seton Hall (Mar. 28-30), Miami (OH) (Apr. 9), and Indiana (Apr. 24), all at home.
     
  • BIG EAST coaches ranked Butler fifth in the 2024 Preseason Poll. Villanova (1st), UConn (2nd), and Seton Hall (3rd) each received at least two first-place votes. DePaul (4th) also ranked ahead of the Bulldogs.

  • The pitching staff has a combined ERA of 8.24 with 10 Ks on the season.
South Dakota (0-5, 0-0 Summit)
  • The Coyotes' losses include No. 6 Georgia, Purdue, and Murray State.
  • Batting leaders include Delaney White (.308), Gabby Moser (.250), and Alexis Lusk (.231).
  • The pitching staff has a combined ERA of 5.08 with 28 Ks on the season.
Georgia State (2-4, 0-0 Sun Belt)
  • The Panthers have two wins over Howard and losses to UConn, Seattle, UCF, and Mercer.
  • Batting leaders include #9 Chloe Nadler (.429), #28 Maya Montague (.333), #1 Chloe Middlebrooks (.333), and Ashton Schroyer (.313).
  • The pitching staff has a combined ERA of 4.07 with 25 Ks on the season.
