Butler Sweeps AAMU with Sunday Victory

HUNTSVILLE – The Bulldogs swept Alabama A&M this weekend by recording three wins at the Bulldog Baseball Field. BU never trailed on Sunday to complete the series sweep. They won 7-2 to improve their overall record to 3-2.

Joey Urban and Billy Wurch each had two RBI in the outcome. Wurch went 2-for-3 from the plate and scored a run. Kade Lewis was another Bulldog in the box score with two hits. He added an RBI to his season total in the seventh.

The scoring opened up with Wurch pushing a ball through the left side of the infield to score Lewis in the top of the second. Each team added runs to the scoreboard in the fifth. BU scored one off a wild pitch and added a second on a groundout.

BU kept their foot down in the sixth and used a Wurch sac bunt to score Xavier Carter. The game moved to 4-1 heading to the final three innings of action.

The Bulldogs created breathing room in the seventh to make the game 7-1. Urban singled to left center to score Moroknek and a bases loaded walk made the game 6-1. Butler's final tally came on a passed ball.

Grant Brooks, Nate Rosser, and Simon Linde combined for 10 strikeouts on the day. Brooks got the start and threw four full innings. He struck out four and only allowed one hit. Rosser tossed three frames and struck out three. Linde was responsible for the final two and added three K's.

Butler will ride this momentum into their first midweek matchup of 2024. They will play at Southern Illinois on Tuesday, Feb. 27. First pitch is set for 4 PM.
