The Butler women's lacrosse team faced a 17-4 loss on Sunday afternoon against Cincinnati at Varsity Field. The Bulldogs are now 1-2 for the season, while the Bearcats improve to 3-2.
The Bearcats dominated in the first quarter of the game accounting for eight goals and only allowing for two Butler goals, scored by
Delaney Hudson and
Sophia Knoblock, assisted by Hudson. Senior midfielder
Leah Rubino recorded one goal in the second quarter at the ten-minute mark, assisted by freshman attack
Mila Navarro.
The Bulldogs looked to fight back, but the Bearcats held the edge in shots (42-14) and ground balls (27-18).
Savannah Behn and
Emily Eckert accounted for six of Butler's 18 ground balls. Sophomore
Elise Latham aided the Bulldogs with an unassisted goal at 10:45 of the third quarter. After Latham's goal the Bulldogs could not hold on as the Bearcats controlled the second half of the game recording six goals.
Goalie
Caroline Smith recorded 15 saves and two ground balls in Butler's loss.
The Bulldogs will head to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State on Saturday, March 2. The first draw is set for 12 p.m. ET.
