@ButlerWLacrosse Faces Loss to BIG EAST Member Villanova

The Butler women's lacrosse team fell 16-11 to Villanova in today's matchup in Indianapolis, Ind. at Varsity Field. The Bulldogs now fall to 2-8 for the season and 1-1 in BIG EAST play, while the Wildcats now improve to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

The Bulldogs were off to a strong start at the beginning of the match. Sophomore attack Luci Selander shot the first goal of the match at 13:35 mark to help project the momentum of the Bulldogs scoring offense. Within the first half, senior midfielder Leah Rubino, passed Butler's career leader in goals scored. She rounded out the match with a total of 82 goals and passing Campbell Connors' 77 career goals accomplished during the 2022-23 season.

The Bulldogs ended the first half down 7-9 and looked to make a strong comeback scoring four consecutive goals to start the third quarter. Rubino, Kate Kaptrosky, and Selander, all played a crucial role in helping the Bulldogs take an 11-9 lead at the 9:36 mark. Unfortunately, due to the Wildcat's late surge, the Bulldogs were unable to make the comeback they were fighting toward. The Wildcats did not allow any Bulldog goals within the final 20 minutes of the match, while scoring seven straight goals. Villanova topped Butler's nine ground balls with a total of 20 throughout the match.
