2023-24 MSOC Henri Kumwenda for Malawi

Kumwenda Joins Malawi National Team for Four Nations Tournament

| By:
Butler Men's Soccer senior Henri Kumwenda recently was called up to compete as a member of the Malawi National Football Team as it competed in the Four Nations Tournament in Malawi, Africa, from March 23-26. The side faced both Kenya and Zambia, while Zimbabwe was the fourth participant.

"It was honor," exclaimed Kumwenda. "Getting the opportunity to represent your country doesn't come around often, and with it comes a lot of pride for me and my family. I hope and pray there are many more opportunities to come."

The Four Nations Tournament provides competing countries a valuable opportunity to play more matches within the short international window, in preparation for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2025 AFCON qualifying campaigns. Kumwenda participated in multiple training sessions as a member of the team and saw action on the pitch vs. Kenya. He was unavailable vs. Zambia due to injury.

Kumwenda, who was born in Malawi and later moved to England, has so far played three seasons for the Bulldogs. The forward has appeared in 48 matches with 28 starts and has tallied three goals along with a pair of assists.

The Malawi National Team will play its next two matches in early June, 2024. The side will face São Tomé and Príncipe as well as Equatorial Guinea. These events are a part of the Group H stage of the FIFA World Cup CAF Qualification 2026 tournament.
