Tolliver Earns Match-High in Kills but the Bulldogs Fall to Wright State in Final Match of Butler Invitational

INDIANAPOLIS — The Bulldogs came up short to Wright State losing in three sets (19-25, 20-25, 13-25) in the final match of the Butler Invitational. Alaleh Tolliver shined bright on offense leading the match with 11 kills while adding eight digs.

Wright State 25-19
Laiya Ebo helped lead the Bulldogs out on a 4-0 run to take an early 7-6 lead earning a pair of kills. The Raiders would respond with a 5-0 spurt to bring the score to 14-10. The two teams then remained deadlock with no one winning more than two points in a row until Wright State would eventually close out the set 25-19. Alaleh Tolliver led the team with three kills in the set.

Wright State 25-20
The Bulldogs started on top in Set 2 again using kills from Tolliver to take a 5-4 lead. Wright State would go on a 8-0 run to flip the score to 13-6. Kills from Elise Ward would help cut the deficit to within three points at 13-10. A 4-0 spurt by the Raiders would extend the lead to 20-13 before the Bulldogs would rally back again using kills from Tolliver and Grace Boggess to shorten the lead to 24-20. However, Wright State would score on the next point to take the second set at 25-20.

Wright State 25-13
Set 3 was dominated by the Raiders after they flew out to a 5-1 lead. A kill and serving ace from Tolliver brought the score back to within two points at 6-4. Five straight 3-0 runs by Wright State would give them a 21-9 lead and eventually winning the match at 25-13.

  • Tolliver hit for .300 earning a match-high 11 kills with eight digs and one serving ace
  • Cora Taylor reached 25 assists with six digs
  • Evans added 12 digs and a pair of assists
  • Ward added five kills and four digs.
Up Next
The Bulldogs will kick off the BIG EAST conference play next Friday with a home match against DePaul slated for Friday, Sep. 27 at 7PM.
