INDIANAPOLIS — The Bulldogs lost another nail-biter at IU Indy Wednesday night in four sets (25-18, 23-25, 23-25, 23-25).
Abby Maesch led the match with 13 kills (3.25 per set)
Butler 25-18
The Bulldogs fell behind early in the first 3-5 but would quickly turn the score around after putting together a 6-0 run using a pair of kills by both Abby Maesch and Grace Boggess to lead 9-5. Butler would continue to extend their lead reaching 22-14 after a kill by Cora Taylor. Destiny Cherry and Sawyer Jones would help close out the set with a huge block to win 25-18.
IU Indy 25-23
Butler picked up where they left off using a kill and block from Elise Ward to take a 7-5 lead. They would hold onto this lead until the Jaguars rallied back to tie the match at 15-15 and soon take a 20-16. IU Indy got the score to match point but the Bulldogs created some drama cutting the lead to 24-23 but the Jaguars would earn the next pint to tie the match at 1-1.
IU Indy 25-23
The Jaguars started Set 3 on top jumping out to a 8-5 lead and would never look back. Butler was able to keep the score within two points until a 4-0 gave the IU Indy a 23-18. Similar to the first set, the Bulldogs rallied back once again to bring the score back to 24-23 but would then fall just short on the last point to give the Jaguars a 2-1 lead in the match.
IU Indy 25-23
The fourth set was all Bulldogs to begin with Butler flying to a 8-4 lead. IU Indy then came flying back to tie the score at 14-14. Butler would fight back and take the lead again at 23-22, but the Jaguars then earned the next three points to secure the match at 25-23.
Stat of the Match: The Bulldogs controlled the net combining for 21.0 blocks compared the the Jaguars 11.0 blocks.
Destiny Cherry led the way with 7.5 total blocks while
Grace Boggess added 4.5 total blocks.
Inside the Box Score
- Taylor combined for 30 assists and 10 digs to earn her second double-double of the season
- Maeach led the match with 13 kills while adding three digs and a pair of serving aces
- Cherry had an incredible day in front of the net earning seven blocking assists and four solo blocks to go with her seven kills
- Lauren Evans led the team with 12 digs while adding three serving aces and assists.
- Jones collected a team-high eight blocking assists and a pair of kills
