Bulldogs Host No. 23/24 Presbyterian for Family Weekend

GAME 7: Butler (4-2, 2-0 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE) vs. #23/24 PRESBYTERIAN (5-0, 1-0 PFL)

LAST WEEK: Reagan Andrew tallied three touchdowns on the ground in the Bulldogs 21-14 win over St. Thomas. Andrew scored his third touchdown of the contest in overtime helping BU secure the victory over the Tommies.  

THE SERIES: This will be the third all-time meeting between the two sides dating back to 2023 as BU holds a 1-1 record against Presbyterian. The Bulldogs secured a 27-17 victory over the Blue Hose in 2023 behind 149 rushing yards from Jaryn Mitchell. Last season, Presbyterian narrowly edged out the Bulldogs in a 30-27 victory in South Carolina.  

ONE YEAR AGO: Andrew was stellar for BU last season completing 20 of 36 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns. Ethan Loss tallied six receptions for 85 yards, a mark that led the squad. Butler dropped the contest 30-27.  

BULLDOG BLITZ:  

  • The Bulldogs are 17-4 when playing at the Sellick Bowl since the beginning of the 2022 season.  
  • The match-up is between the two most recent PFL teams to be nationally ranked as Butler was ranked No. 23 in the AFCA Poll Nov. 18, 2024 (heading into the 2024 season finale) – Butler was not ranked in the STATS poll last season. 
  • Butler quarterback, Andrew, completed 16 of 21 passes for 141 yards through the air and added 87 rushing yards on 26 carries while finding the endzone three times last week. The signal caller was tabbed as the PFL Offensive Player of the Week on Sunday. It was Andrew's third conference honor of his career and first of the 2025 campaign. 
  • Will Mason tallied his second interception in as many games for BU and chipped in 10 total tackles (six solo, four assisted) against St. Thomas. 
  • Mason Armstrong tallied nine total tackles against St. Thomas. Armstrong leads the Bulldog defense with 34 total tackles this season.  

  • Jackson Stratton continues to be a dominant force on the defensive side of the ball, accumulating four sacks thus far, a mark that ranks tied for 33rd nationally. 

  • BU leads the PFL and is seventh nationally in FCS for blocked kicks, tallying three on the season. Butler also ranks first in the PFL and seventh nationally in fewest penalties per game, averaging 4.17.  

  • The Bulldogs rank seventh nationally in time of possession averaging 33:17 minutes of possession per game.  

  • Butler was picked fourth in the 2025 Pioneer Football League Preseason Coaches' Poll.  

  • Butler added 29 newcomers to the 2025 roster, including transfers from Ball State, Idaho, Toledo and Tulane.  

SCOUTING PRESBYTERIAN:  

  • The Blue Hose are ranked No. 23 in the AFCA FCS Poll and come in at No. 24 in the Stats Perform Poll.  

  • PC is averaging 42.60 points per game while limiting its opponents to 13.00 points per game.  

  • Presbyterian has 1,142 rushing yards on the campaign and has tallied 12 scores on the ground.  

  • Zach Switzer leads the Blue Hose offense on the ground with 439 followed by Justin Montgomery with 332.  

  • At quarterback, Collin Hurst boasts a 66.67 completion percentage and has tossed for 1,323 yards and 15 touchdowns this season while throwing only four interceptions.  

  • Cincere Gill paces the Blue Hose receiving corps with 14 catches for 357 yards and four touchdowns.  

  • Caleb Francis leads the PC defense with four interceptions in five games this season.  

WHAT LIES AHEAD 

Butler will be back in action on Saturday, October 18 as the Bulldogs make the quick trip to Dayton to face the Flyers. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. at Welcome Stadium. Fans can find a link to live stats and a live stream on Butlersports.com.
