Butler Travels to Dayton for Saturday Matchup with Flyers

GAME 8: Butler (4-3, 2-1 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE) vs. Dayton (5-1, 3-0 PFL)

LAST WEEK: Reagan Andrew recorded 310 total offensive yards last week against then-No. 23/24 Presbyterian. The redshirt-junior completed 20-of-33 passes for 195 yards and carried the ball a career-high 31 times for a career-high 115 yards while scoring one touchdown. Griffin Caldwell scored his second touchdown of the season against PC. Jeremiah Jackson led the defense last week with nine tackles against PC. 

THE SERIES: This will be the 25th meeting between the two programs dating back to 2000 and the Flyers lead the all-time series 17-7. In the last three matchups against the Flyers, Butler is 2-1. Butler's first meeting with Dayton was in 2000. In 2022, Butler beat Dayton 31-0 ending the Flyer's streak of 501 consecutive games of scoring. It was the longest streak in Division I football at the time. 

ONE YEAR AGO: Reagan Andrew tallied 137 all-purpose yards a year ago against the Flyers. Andrew had 50 passing yards on 10 completions. The quarterback had eight carriers for 87 yards and a touchdown. Nick Howard threw for 47 yards in the contest while adding 48 yards on the ground. Luke Wooten had six catches for 50 yards in the game. Will Mason, Nick Bafia and Danny Orgler led the squad in tackles with seven each. Butler dropped the contest 21-14. 

BULLDOG BLITZ:  

  • The Bulldogs are 17-5 when playing at the Sellick Bowl since the beginning of the 2022 season.  

  • Butler quarterback, Andrew, had a career day last week against then-No. 23/24 Presbyterian totaling 310 yards of total offense. The signal caller completed 20-of-33 passes for 195 yards through the air. On the ground, the St. Louis native recorded career highs in carries (31) and rushing yards (115). Andrew scored his seventh rushing touchdown of the season in the contest. 

  • Nick Munson led the squad with five catches for 59 yards on eight targets.

  • Griffin Caldwell carried the ball six times for 46 yards and a touchdown. 

  • Jeremiah Jackson paces the defense with 42 tackles on the season to go with three PBU's. 

  • Will Mason is second on the squad in tackles with 38 to his credit and leads the team in interceptions with two. 

  • BU leads the PFL and is eighth nationally in FCS for blocked kicks, tallying three on the season. Butler also ranks first in the PFL and seventh nationally in fewest penalties per game, averaging 4.00.  

  • The Bulldogs rank second nationally in time of possession averaging 34:18 minutes of possession per game.  

  • Butler was picked fourth in the 2025 Pioneer Football League Preseason Coaches' Poll.  

  • Butler added 29 newcomers to the 2025 roster, including transfers from Ball State, Idaho, Toledo and Tulane.

SCOUTING DAYTON: 

  • Dayton enters Saturday's contest with a 5-1 record after securing a 41-10 victory over Valparaiso last weekend. 

  • Dayton is averaging 32.2 points per game while limiting its opponents to 15.0 ppg. 

  • Dayton has 764 rushing yards on the campaign and has recorded 1,423 passing yards in six games. 

  • Quarterback Bryce Schondelmyer boasts a 67% completion percentage and has tossed for 1,335 yards and 15 touchdowns. 

  • Luke Hansen and Mason Hackett pace the Flyer offense on the ground with 300 rushing yards and 299 rushing yards, respectively. Michael Mussari leads the squad in receiving yards with 457 yards to his credit on 24 catches. 

  • Vincent Firenze and Sam Schmiesing lead the Dayton defense with 44 and 43 total tackles on the campaign.

  • Josh Williams has three interceptions on the season, a mark that leads the team. 

WHAT LIES AHEAD 

After Butler's matchup with Dayton, BU will have its bye week. Butler will return to action on November 1 as the Drake Bulldogs will visit the Sellick Bowl.
