Butler and Illinois State battled to a tie atop the team standings at the 2025 Dayton Flyer Invitational, continuing the Bulldogs' early-season streak of Top-2 finishes in all of their events thus far.
Â
Though Butler's Tuesday final-round score of twelve-over 296 was seventh among the 12-team field, the Bulldogs remained at the top of the standings thanks to a one-under 283 in Monday's second round – the only round below par in the two-day tournament. Butler and Illinois State finished at 867 (+15) after the full three rounds, five strokes ahead of host Dayton at 872 (+20). Rounding out the top five teams were Ball State at 873 (+21) and Wright State at 875 (+23).
Â
Butler's
Derek Tabor tied for second individually at six-under 207. He carded a three-over 74 Tuesday on the 7,004-yard NCR Country Club South Course in Kettering, Ohio, after Monday rounds of 65 and 68.
Logan Sutto and
Will Horne also finished in the Top 10, tying for sixth at even par. Sutto used four birdies for an even-par third round, and Horne's two-under 69, which featured six birdies, tied for the lowest individual round on Tuesday.
Â
Miami's Liam Nelson, who competed as an individual, won medalist honors with a seven-under 206. Tied in second with Butler's Tabor, at six-under 207, was Dayton's TJ Kreusch. Ball State's Luke Johnston and Wright State's Shane Ochs tied for fourth at three-under 210, and three other competitors joined Butler's Horne tied for sixth at even-par 213.
Â
Butler has now posted Top-2 finishes in each of their five events this fall, also taking team titles at the season-opening Golden Grizzlies Intercollegiate along with the Virtues Intercollegiate at the end of September.
