Butler Set to Host Seton Hall and St. John's at Hinkle This Weekend

After spending last weekend on the road, Butler will return to Hinkle Fieldhouse to host Seton Hall and St. John's this weekend.

Butler So Far
Halfway through the conference play schedule the Dawgs are 9-12 overall and 2-6 in BIG EAST play. Last weekend Butler went 1-1, earning a win over DePaul in Chicago and falling to Marquette in Milwaukee. 

Bulldog Bites
  • Butler is 6-3 in home matches. 
  • Alaleh Tolliver is third in the conference in total kills (286) and fourth in the BIG EAST in kills per set (3.86). 
  • Tolliver is fourth in the conference in points per set (4.47). 
  • Kaylee Finnegan ranks fourth in the conference in assists per set (9.21)
  • Finnegan was named BIG EAST setter of the week on Sept. 2 after she posted 128 assists over the course of three matches. 
  • Lauren Evans is third in the conference in digs (4.23).
  • Elise Ward has tallied 209 kills and is averaging 2.82 per set. 
  • Zoe McDonald leads the team in blocks (74). 

Potential Milestone For Coach Shondell 
Butler head coach Kyle Shondell currently has 99 career wins as a women's volleyball head coach. He has won 29 matches at Butler, with the remaining 70 coming during his previous stops at Rock Valley College and Huntington University.

A win in either match this weekend would mark Shondell's 100th career victory. 

Scouting Seton Hall
Seton Hall will enter Friday night's match against Butler with a 6-13 overall record and 0-8 in Big East play.

The Pirates are led offensively by Sadie Reich, who leads the team with 3.56 kills per set. Gwen Alder and Emilee Fuller split time as the team's setters. Alder leads the team in assists with 262, while Fuller has contributed 232. Defensively, Rylee Nelson leads the team in digs, averaging 3.76 per set.

Last season, Butler beat Seton Hall in both meetings. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 15-7. 

Scouting St. John's
St. John's will head into the weekend with a 6-15 overall record and 2-6 in conference play. Their conference wins came against Providence and Seton Hall.

Martina Capponcelli sets up most of the offense for the Johnnies, recording 416 assists so far this season. Erin Jones leads the team in kills, averaging 3.16 per set, and has also tallied 190 digs, second on the team. Rashanny Solano Smith leads St. John's defensively with 3.78 digs per set.

Butler dropped both matches against St. John's last season. The all-time series is tied at 11-11.

Butler will welcome Georgetown and Villanova to Hinkle Fieldhouse next weekend. The Bulldogs will play the Hoyas on Friday night, Oct. 31, and Villanova on Saturday night, Nov. 1.
