Butler Defeats Georgetown in Four Sets on Halloween

Indianapolis IND- The Butler Bulldogs defeated the Georgetown Hoyas in four sets Friday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse. With the win, Butler earned its third-straight victory to move to 12-12 overall and 5-6 in Big East play. Georgetown fell to 13-11 overall and 6-5 in the conference.
Bulldog Bites Set 1 Georgetown (33-31)
The first set was a wild one. Georgetown jumped out to an early lead and held a 14-10 advantage. Butler scored four of the next five points, fueled by back-to-back kills from Maria Nix and a pair of Hoya errors. Later in the set, Butler fought off two set points with kills from Alaleh Tolliver and Zoe McDonald to tie it at 24. The Bulldogs saved four more set points before two straight Georgetown kills sealed the set for the Hoyas, 33-31.

Set 2 Butler (25-21)
The second set saw the Dawgs pounce on the Hoyas, opening with a 4-0 run and building a 9-2 lead behind kills from Sawyer Jones and Elise Ward and an ace from Tolliver. A Tolliver kill, followed by a block assist from Ward and McDonald, put Butler in front 21-15. The Bulldogs then capitalized on several Hoya errors to take the set by four, 25-21.

Set 3 Butler (25-18)
Butler once again started fast, building a 12-5 lead. Lauren Evans recorded three aces in a span of four points to help the Dawgs build their advantage. Two kills from Jones helped Butler maintain its seven-point lead at 16-9. Back-to-back kills from Alaleh Tolliver and Ward, followed by a solo block from Ellery Rees, secured the final three points of the third set, giving Butler a 25-18 win.

Set 4 Butler (25-16)
Set four was mostly Bulldogs once again. Three straight kills from Tolliver helped put Butler in front 12-7. A service ace from Ward, followed by another Tolliver kill and a kill from Rees, extended the lead to 20-14. Butler then won five straight points to close out the match, with a Sarah Kempf ace sealing it for the Dawgs.
