CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Butler women's soccer team conceded an early goal to No. 22 Xavier, but the defense then locked down for the remainder of the match, resulting in a 1-0 loss on the road.
The host side, which was threatening in the ninth minute, connected a couple of passes in front of Butler's goal and finally connected with a shot from about eight yards. The Musketeers (9-8-2, 4-0-1 BIG EAST) repeatedly threatened throughout the remainder of the match but were met with resistance that prevented them from extending the lead.
The Bulldogs (4-3-5, 1-2-2 BIG EAST) generated six shots, with four on frame, after Xavier's early goal, but the Dawgs were unable to find the back of the net. Goalkeeper Addison Ash made six saves to keep Butler within striking distance.
The Bulldogs enter a bye week and will not play a match for nine days. Next up will be a pair of home matches vs. UConn (Oct. 15) and Seton Hall (Oct. 18).
