Butler Falls to Georgetown in Four Sets

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Georgetown Hoyas defeated the Butler Bulldogs 3-1 on Saturday evening in the nation's capital. With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 7-10 overall and 0-4 in BIG EAST play.

Bulldog Bites
Set 1 Georgetown (25-20)
The Dawgs and Hoyas began the match trading points back and forth. Multiple kills for Zoe McDonald as well as kills from Elise Ward and Alaleh Tolliver helped Butler tie the set at 16 apiece. Georgetown was able to hold off a Butler run and scored five straight points to win the set. 

Set 2 Butler (25-19)
A block by Zoe McDonald followed by a kill from Kaylee Finnegan helped Butler open the set strong. The teams were tied at 10 before Elise Ward delivered three service aces in a four-point stretch. Two more kills later in the set from Ward helped Butler maintain its lead. A kill by McDonald sealed the Set 2 win for the Bulldogs.

Set 3 Georgetown (25-19)
Kills from Kaylee Finnegan and Sawyer Jones early in Set 3 gave Butler a three-point lead. Georgetown responded with a run and built an 18-12 advantage. The Bulldogs didn't go away quietly, a kill and service ace from Alaleh Tolliver made the set 3 margin six.

Set 4 Georgetown (25-17)
Set 4 belonged to Georgetown. The Hoyas built a 10-6 lead before Carly Slusser and Zoe McDonald recorded kills, helping Butler score five of the next six points to tie the set at 11. Georgetown regained the lead and maintained it for the remainder of the set. The Hoyas won Set 4, 25-17, and took the match 3-1.

The Bulldogs will return to Hinkle Fieldhouse next weekend. They will face Providence on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m., and UConn on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 5 p.m.
