Butler Drops Road Battle at Morehead State 31-30

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Butler fell to the Morehead State Eagles 31-30 on Saturday afternoon in Morehead, Kentucky. With the loss, Butler slides to 5-5 on the season and 3-3 in PFL play while Morehead State improves to 6-5 and 4-3 in PFL action. 



NOTEABLE STATS 
  • Ethan Loss totaled 174 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. Loss had seven receptions for 72 yards and two carries for two yards and a rushing score. Loss had a 100-yard kickoff return marking his second touchdown off of a kickoff return this season. 
  • Reagan Andrew completed 13-of-20 passes for 103 yards and threw two interceptions. Andrew added 74 rushing yards on 16 carries. 
  • Charlie Spegal had nine carries for 41 yards and a touchdown. 
  • Peyton Daniels paced the defense with seven tackles. 
  • Mason Armstrong had five solo tackles. 
  • Danny Orgler recorded two tackles, one of which was a sack where he forced a Morehead State fumble. 
  • Ryan Short was 3-for-3 on field goals converting from 43, 44 and 45 yards. 
  • Morehead quarterback Carter Cravens completed 23-of-31 passes for 298 yards while tossing for two touchdowns. 
  • Ryan Upp hauled in nine catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns. 
  • KJ Hardesty led the Morehead defense with 11 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Morehead State had the first possession of the game and put together a nine-play, 77-yard drive that ended with Isaac Stopke rushing score giving the Eagles an early 7-0 advantage. Butler immediately responded as Loss took the ensuing kickoff 100-yards to the house for his second kick return touchdown of the season. 
  • After forcing a three-and-out, Butler put together an 11-play, 74-yard drive and capped it off with a rushing touchdown from Spegal. BU held the 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. 
  • Morehead State responded to the Butler touchdown with a field goal, cutting the deficit to four. Both sides traded a possession before BU put together a five-play, 57-yard drive that ended with Loss scoring his second touchdown of the game on a two-yard rush. The Eagles didn't back down as Morehead State responded with a two-play, 65-yard drive as Upp scored on a 57-yard reception. Neither side was able to find the endzone again in the half but Short was able to convert his longest field goal of the season (45-yards) right before half as Butler took the 24-17 advantage into the break. 
  • The Eagles were able to force a Butler turnover on the opening drive of the second half and capitalized with a touchdown run from Jackson Lanier tying the game at 24-24. Later in the third, BU was able to force an Eagle fumble near midfield and capitalized on the turnover with a 44-yard field goal from Short. BU took the 27-24 lead into the final quarter. 
  • Neither side was able to generate much offense in the final frame as the first score of the quarter was a 43-yard field goal from Short with 3:33 left in the game. The Eagles answered with a 14-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a seven-yard TD reception from Upp. BU was unable to get into field goal range in the final minute of the game dropping the contest 31-30.
