KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Butler senior
Talia Sommer has been recognized by the United Soccer Coaches for her performances in the classroom and on the soccer field this past season. Sommer, who has a 3.94 GPA and will receive her bachelor's degree this month in Computational Neuroscience with a minor in Philosophy, was designated a member of the Scholar All-America Second Team, as well as the All-North/Central Region Team. The midfielder was previously honored with a United Soccer Coaches All-America Third Team designation for her on-field performance this past season.
A native of Tel Aviv, Israel, Sommer finished her career at Butler on several of the program's All-Time career lists. She is tied for fifth with 24 assists and finished seventh with 28 goals and 80 total points. She also landed on several of Butler's single-season lists. She is tied for sixth, all-time, with 29 total points in the 2024 season, and she is tied for tenth, all-time, with 11 goals and seven assists in the same season. The midfielder was named 2025 BIG EAST Co-Midfielder of the Year and was an All-BIG EAST First Team honoree over third-straight seasons.
This honor represents the seventh season in which a women's soccer player has earned national academic honors, dating back to 2015. Sommer, herself, has now earned national recognition in two consecutive years. She recently signed a NWSL contract with Gotham FC, and she plans to continue to play soccer professionally while working for a PhD in Neuroscience.
Student-athletes on this year's Scholar All-America Teams will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony. This event will take place at the United Soccer Coaches national convention, which is in Philadelphia, Penn., from January 14-17, 2026.
