Gabay and McMahon Earn New Personal Bests at David Hemery Valentine Invitational

The Butler track and field team competed against the top athletes in the country in Boston, Mass. Friday night. The field featured a mix of the top college athletes and professional runners across the country that even included former Olympic medalists.

Austin Gabay became the first Bulldog to break the four-minute mark this season after recording a time of 3:59.19. He finished sixth in Heat 4 of 27 and 56th out of 354 finishers.

In the men's 5,000 meters, Matthew Forrester led the way for the Bulldogs in the men's 5,000 meters improving his season best to 13:45.46 to place 48th out of 212 competitors. Forrester still holds the third fastest mark in the BIG EAST.

Jack McMahon followed in the 5K, shaving five seconds off his personal best to finish sixth in Heat 6 and 57th overall at 13:49.23. Luke Henseler rounded out the Bulldog competitors running a solid time at 14:24.29.

Two-time Olympic bronze medalist Grant Fisher won the event after setting a new world record mark of 12:44.09.

Butler will regroup as a team for one last meet before the conference championships at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind. on Saturday, Feb. 22.
