Walden and Forrester Earn Medals at Day 1 of the BIG EAST Indoor Championships

The Butler track and field team earned two medals during the first day of events at the Big East Indoor Championships in Chicago, Ill. on Friday afternoon.

Luke Walden led the way in the field receiving a gold medal after winning the men's pole vault with a height of 4.95 meters. He was the first Bulldog to win the event since Wade Walder earned the top spot in 2020.

On the track, Matthew Forrester secured second in the men's 5,000 meters with a mark of 14:01.62 to earn All-Big East honors.

Other top Bulldog performers included:
  • Jack McMahon ran a mark of 14:15.69 in the men's 5,000 meters to earn fifth
  • Lily Wharton finished fifth in the women's pentathlon with a score of 2983
  • Austin Gabay qualified for the men's mile finals after placing fourth with a mark of 4:08.71
  • Abby Brennan qualified for the women's 400 meters finals after recording a new personal best at 56.04
The Bulldogs will pick up where they left off tomorrow morning with the men's heptathlon at noon. The field events will follow with the women's shot put at 1 PM and the races will begin at 1:05 PM.
