Creighton Secures Game Three, and Series, Over Butler

OMAHA, Neb. – The Butler softball team was unable to stifle the Creighton offense in game three of the BIG EAST series, losing by the final score of 19-5 in five innings. The Bulldogs (21-18, 10-8 BIG EAST) scored in the third and fifth innings, but the Bluejays (18-20, 8-7 BIG EAST) used two grand slam home runs to complete the weekend sweep.
 
Game 3: Creighton 19, Butler 5 (5 innings)
 
Creighton produced five runs on only two singles in the bottom of the first inning and then added another pair on a two-run home run in the second.
 
In the top of the third, Butler scored three runs on three singles and an error. The Bluejays answered in the bottom half, scoring six runs on four hits that included a grand slam home run. The lead was now 13-3.
 
A second grand slam capped a six-run fourth as Creighton increased the lead to 19-3.
 
The Bulldogs added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning.
 
Rylyn Dyer (6-6) started in the circle for Butler and took the loss. In 0.1 innings, she allowed five runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk. Gwen Baker (1.1 IP, 2R, 2H, 2BB, 1K) provided relief in the first, and Kayla Noerr (2.1 IP, 12R, 11ER, 9H, 2BB) replaced her in the second.

  • Ella White's fifth-inning double was her sixth this season and the 40th of her career.
