The Ball State Cardinals improved to 27-11 overall with a 3-2 win at Bulldog Park on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs got a leadoff double to start the bottom of the ninth inning but couldn't advance the runner leading to the one-run setback.
Â
Each team had five hits in the contest. Scoring opened up in the second with BSU getting an RBI groundout followed by an RBI double to right. BU got an RBI single from
Will Burgess in the fifth to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Â
Husovsky gave the Cardinals an insurance run in the seventh with a single to left that scored Richter. That run and the first of the game were both unearned.
Â
The Bulldogs made some noise in the eighth and
Jack Bello was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make the game 3-2. The comeback effort fell just short as Harker entered the game to pick up the save for BSU. He struck out two of the four batters he faced in the ninth.
Â
Garza made the biggest impact on the outcome for BSU and therefore was credited with the win. The loss went to BU starter
Simon Linde. The right-hander was sharp, striking out four over four innings.
Â
Butler will now travel to Georgetown for a three-game series that begins on Thursday. Single games will follow on Friday and Saturday.
