Lynch Adds Two to BU Coaching Staff

| By:
Butler Football Head Coach Kevin Lynch added two coaches to his staff this week. Alex Mitchell joins the Bulldogs as the program's new tight end coach and Tyce Ferrell has been added as an offensive assistant.

Alex Mitchell most recently worked at Indiana State as the running backs coach. He joined the Sycamores in 2023 following coaching stints with ISU, Western Michigan, and Kenyon College.

Mitchell helped improve the Sycamore run game during his two-year stint as the running back coach. ISU averaged more rushing yards per game than passing yards in 2024. Overall production picked up across the board with the Sycamores scoring nine more rushing touchdowns in 2024 than they did in 2023.

Before becoming the running backs coach at Indiana State, Mitchell worked on the same staff as a graduate assistant working extensively with the tight end group and the special team's unit.

Prior to his time at Indiana State, Mitchell coached at Western Michigan from 2020-2022 first as an offensive quality control coach (2020 & 2021) and then as a defensive graduate assistant (2022).

Mitchell earned his coaching start at Kenyon College from 2018-20 working with the wide receivers and the running backs. He helped implement and run individual position drills, as well as create scouting reports and analysis of the opposing linebackers and special teams.

Tyce Ferrell will help Mitchell on the offensive side of the football at BU. A former student-athlete at Ball State and Indiana State, Ferrell played tight end at BSU in 2024. He caught two passes as a Cardinal while appearing in all 12 contests.

Before arriving in Muncie, Ferrell played in 31 games at Indiana State. He caught 20 passes for 139 yards and scored two touchdowns over three seasons at ISU.

Ferrell was a multi-sport athlete while at Avon High School. He will begin his collegiate coaching career at Butler after being influenced by Mark Bless (Avon), Curt Mallory (ISU), and Mike Neu (BSU).
