Butler Wins Sixth Straight 10K Title on Opening Night of the Big East Outdoor Championships

The Butler track and field team had a stellar start to Big East Outdoor Championships on Thursday afternoon after securing their sixth straight title in the men's 10,000 meters.

William Zegarski and Matthew Forrester went 1-2 in the race with Zegarski taking home the Big East crown at 28:46.14 followed by Forrester in second at 29:03.17. Jack McMahon also rounded out the scorers in the event taking fourth at 29:58.37.

The Bulldogs collected 23 points in the event giving them the lead in the conference standings after the first day of competition.

In the women's 10K, Ashlyn Minton scored points for the Bulldogs in fifth at 35:38.09.

The multis scoreboard for the men's decathlon Butler's Sean Davies 3,213 points at the halfway point. UConn currently holds four of the top five spots in the event led by Joshua Mooney 3,936 points.

In the women's heptathlon, Lily Wharton currently sits in third with 2,848 points. UConn's Audrey Kozak has the lead with 3,112 points heading into Friday's conclusion 

The second day of competition will take place tomorrow beginning with the conclusion of the multis events at 12 p.m. Eastern. The first track event will be the 1,500 meters at 2 p.m. with the long jump kicking off in the field at 3 p.m.
