St. John's scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth winning to edge Butler 11-10 on Friday afternoon. The action-packed contest featured 21 runs, 28 hits and six errors.
Â
An odd start to the game allowed St. John's to score three runs in the top of the first inning, but BU would battle back to score four in the bottom of the fourth to make the game 6-3.
Â
The turning point in this one followed soon after with STJ scoring five in the fifth. Shortstop Luke Orbon cleared the bases with a double to deep right center to give the visitors the lead and a single back up the middle of the diamond would allow Orbon to come around and score.
Â
David Ayers homered to get BU back within on in the sixth and a two RBI double to left center by
Jack Bello would pull BU even with the Red Storm at 10-10.
Â
Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, STJ would use a sac fly to win the game in the eighth. The run went down as unearned.
Â
Bello ended the day 2-for-5 with a team-best four RBIs.
AJ Solomon was also an impact player with two RBIs on the day.
Â
On the mound, Butler used six arms.
Nate Rosser got the start and threw the first four innings. The senior struck out five and only gave up two earned runs. The loss went to
Simon Linde while the win was credited to Jed Boyle.
